Assemblyman Ramos: Legislature Will Deliver the Right Budget for New York
May 14, 2003
Governor Pataki’s eleventh-hour veto of the Legislature’s bipartisan budget accord should come as no surprise. Throughout this year’s budget process the governor has consistently kept his head stuck in the sand while families across the state cried out against his unfair budget that punishes working families with record property tax increases. The Assembly and Senate – legislators from both political parties – united to pass a better plan. We gave the governor the opportunity to help save our schools and health care system, and head off the largest property tax increase in history, but he refused – failing to lead while stubbornly refusing to get out of the way. The Legislature is resolved to do right by New York’s working families. We will stand up for good choices and override his vetoes.
