Speaker Heastie Continues Statewide Tour in Suffolk County to Announce $1 Million Investment in YMCA in Wyandanch

Speaker Carl Heastie continued his annual statewide tour today with Assemblymember Kimberly Jean-Pierre in the hamlet of Wyandanch on Long Island. Together they visited the future site of the Wyandanch YMCA and announced the Assembly’s $1 million investment in the project.

“This new YMCA will be such a valuable asset to the Wyandanch community,” said Speaker Heastie. “I have seen firsthand in my community the benefits of having a local YMCA, from wellness to childcare to employment opportunities, and I am especially excited for what it will bring to this growing community.”

“For years, we have worked to revitalize Wyandanch through strategic investments and planning efforts,” said Assemblymember Jean-Pierre. “I am so excited to announce the Assembly’s $1 million investment in a new YMCA for this community, and I want to thank Speaker Heastie for his support and for joining us today.”

The Wyandanch YMCA will provide critical resources to the community, including childcare, healthy living programs and job opportunities. This new facility will also be a part of the Wyandanch Rising/Wyandanch Village planned community project consisting of residential, retail, office, cultural and civic spaces to address longstanding issues of poverty, blight and lack of investment in Wyandanch.
