Speaker Heastie Statement on Upstate Minimum Wage Increase

The Assembly Majority believes that no one working a full-time job should have to live in poverty. New Yorkers deserve to earn a livable wage for the hard work they do day in and day out. In 2016, we passed legislation to gradually raise the minimum wage from $9.00 to $15 per hour. Today, the minimum wage Upstate will increase from $13.20 to $14.20 per hour.

Inflation hit New Yorkers hard this year – at the grocery store and at the gas tank – and while we adopted a series of measures to bring relief, we know our job is not done. As we look toward a new session and a new year, we will continue to put our families first and to keep moving New York forward.
