Speaker Heastie Visits Rockland County with Assemblymember Wieder on Annual Statewide Tour

Speaker Carl Heastie today continued his annual statewide tour with Assemblymember Aron Wieder, visiting the Piermont Pier and announcing a total of $2 million for the villages of Piermont and Spring Valley to support municipal and emergency operations.
“The Piermont Pier is truly a hidden gem along the Hudson River that offers residents and visitors a unique experience of the river for recreation, fishing and just taking in the scenery,” said Speaker Heastie. “It was good to be here in this historic community today with Assemblymember Wieder to learn about the work being done to protect residents and visitors along the waterfront.”
“I was proud to show Speaker Heastie Orangetown, one of the many great waterfront resources along the Hudson River in the community and the efforts of local government to protect the safety and well-being of residents and visitors who enjoy the river every day,” said Assemblymember Wieder. “Being a Hudson River community, I will always work to ensure Piermont and the surrounding community have the resources they need, especially for emergency situations.”
Speaker Heastie and Assemblymember Wieder were joined by Piermont Mayor Nathan Mitchell and Spring Valley Mayor Schenley Vital for a visit to the Piermont Pier. Together they announced $1.5 million in state funding for snowplows and other municipal equipment for the village of Spring Valley. They also announced an additional $500,000 in funding to support the village of Piermont’s municipal and emergency operations, including $200,000 for a new search and rescue boat, $200,000 for road repair at the Piermont Pier, and $100,000 for new children’s park equipment.
Built in the mid-1800s, and originally serving as the terminus of the Erie Railroad, the 4,000-foot-long Piermont Pier is now a space for residents and visitors to access and enjoy the scenic Hudson River. As a Hudson River community with a range of recreational activity along the river, the village of Piermont is committed to protecting the safety of its residents and visitors through essential municipal and emergency services.
