Tague Partners with Cornell CALS for Successful 7th Annual Farm Tour
Assemblyman Chris Tague (R,C-Schoharie) hosted the 7th Annual Farm Tour in partnership with Cornell College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) from September 16-18 in Ithaca. The three-day event brought together legislators and agricultural advocates to explore the state’s farming industry through tours of research facilities, lectures and breakout sessions.
The tour showcased cutting-edge agricultural practices and innovations, offering a unique opportunity for legislators to learn about groundbreaking research happening right here in New York. The tour included stops across multiple labs and facilities, including but not limited to the protection of native bees and current work with beekeepers and honey producers, discussions focused on forest regeneration, use of genetic engineering for rare earths mining, next generation of agricultural robotics development, food desert mapping and urban agriculture. Additionally, those in attendance received a hands-on experience in plant grafting, dairy food innovation and new product development.
“I am incredibly proud of the success of this year’s Farm Tour and the hardworking farmers across our state who drive our agricultural legacy forward,” said Tague. “This informative event highlighted the innovative research and dedication that support our rural communities and economy. I am proud to showcase their efforts and advocate for their future. Thank you so much to the Cornell staff for making this week happen for us.”
Benjamin Houlton, Ronald P. Lynch Dean of Cornell University’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, addressed the group about the history of the college and current opportunities and challenges faced by farmers in the state. “There is so much that connects us and I want to thank Chris for his leadership in a time when it would be easy to be polarized. Instead, we’re really focused on what we can do together to bring solutions to society,” Houlton added.
