Tague Hails Senate Vote Restoring Whole Milk to School Cafeterias

The Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act passes the U.S. Senate with bipartisan support

Assemblyman Chris Tague (R,C-Schoharie) today celebrated the U.S. Senate’s bipartisan passage of the Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act, calling it a long-awaited victory for New York families and the state’s agricultural community.

Tague, a former dairy farmer himself and one of New York’s strongest advocates for reintroducing whole milk in schools, said the decision represents a major step forward for childhood nutrition, parental choice and the vitality of local dairy producers across upstate New York.

“For years, parents and nutrition experts have been clear that kids deserve real choices at lunchtime, and whole milk provides the nutrients they need to grow strong and healthy,” Tague said. “Allowing whole and reduced-fat milk back into school cafeterias is both common sense and good science. It gives families confidence, helps kids thrive and supports the dairy farms that are the makeup of our rural economy.”

Tague said he has championed whole milk in schools “since the day I arrived in the Legislature,” adding. “The Senate’s action is a long-overdue course correction and a big win for New York agriculture. Our dairy farmers work hard every day, and this bill helps ensure their product gets into the hands of the next generation. I couldn’t be prouder to stand with them.”
