Assemblyman Chris Tague (R,C,I,Ref-Schoharie) has launched a petition in support of a bill he sponsors in the Assembly that would provide tuition assistance for SUNY or CUNY students who are family members of a deceased service man or woman who died in the line of duty. The bill has received bipartisan support, but some the Assembly Majority used their position of power within the Higher Education Committee to keep the bill from a vote on the Assembly floor and Tague is moving to ensure the bill is reconsidered for a vote.

“What the Assembly Majority did last week to Gold Star Families was as disgraceful as it was shameful,” Tague said. “We need to do the right thing for these families. Please add your voice to all of us that think the children of our slain heroes deserve college over illegal immigrants. It’s about respect and honor. The Legislature needs to pass this bill.”
