Friend: Tax Freedom Day Shows Need For Tax Cuts
Assemblyman Christopher S. Friend (R,C,I-Big Flats) is urging his colleagues to adopt a new series of tax cuts in light of New York’s Tax Freedom Day. Tax Freedom Day is when New Yorkers have finally worked long enough to satisfy their annual federal and state tax burdens. New York reached its Tax Freedom Day today, May 8; later than all but two other states.
“New York has a tax-and-spend problem, and it’s driving thousands out of the state every single year,” Friend said. “New Yorkers work hard, and they deserve the fruits of their labor a whole lot more than the government does – especially considering the recent scandals highlighting the pay-to-play mentality in our state government. We have to introduce broad, tax-cutting measures to keep families in their homes for generations to come. We have to alleviate the strain that Albany has put on the average family. There is no proper reason for New York to continue on this path, and we must begin repairing the damage that has been done. Let’s make this state a place where you can afford to live and plan a future.”
