Friend, Akshar Celebrate Music In Our Schools Month With The Newark Valley Women’s Choir

Assemblyman Christopher S. Friend (R,C,I-Big Flats) and Sen. Fred Akshar welcomed the Newark Valley High School (NVHS) Women’s Choir to the State Capitol to help celebrate the Music in Our Schools Month. The New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) and the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) coordinate numerous choirs, orchestras, bands and jazz ensembles from various schools to perform at the Empire Plaza in Albany.

“Music education is a valued part of a well-rounded education for New York’s students and we are happy to celebrate Music in Our Schools Month with the NVHS Women’s Choir,” said Friend and Akshar. “Music not only sparks creativity but studies show it has multiple benefits in developing learning, memory, analytical skills and more. We are happy to support music education in our schools and what it helps provide to our students.”
