Assemblyman Jarett Gandolfo (R,C,I-Sayville) has sent a letter to Gov. Cuomo demanding the governor’s office release bars and restaurants from the archaic curfew regulations that were implemented last year in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. The drafting of this letter follows the governor’s decision to waive curfew restrictions from institutions like casinos, pool halls, gyms and theaters, but continue to leave out restaurants and bars. Long Island was one of the hardest hit parts of the state, and with its fantastic recovery, Gandolfo knows the time is now to spur the economic and social comeback.

“Nobody knows what the pandemic did better than Long Island, but these restrictions have gone from a somewhat reasonable ask in the fight against a virus to a state-sanctioned hampering of a return to business,” Gandolfo said. “This continues after the state has offered little to no support to our local restaurateurs and their families who have been struggling to make it through this pandemic. It is paramount that the governor’s office rescinds these curfew restrictions.”

Gandolfo has been coordinating with constituents in the restaurant business since taking office in January and understands the gravity of the situation many of them face. “These are people’s livelihoods that are being disrupted continually by the state with little other support. It cannot continue,” Gandolfo concluded.
