Statement from Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz Regarding President Trump’s Remarks on Eliminating Mail-In Ballots

Authoritarians and would-be dictators don’t believe in democracy. Trying to eliminate the right of people to vote epitomizes what authoritarianism is about.
Trump has said he would lead a movement to eliminate mail-in ballots. Trump wrote on Monday: “THE MAIL-IN BALLOT HOAX USING VOTING MACHINES THAT ARE A COMPLETE AND TOTAL DISASTER, MUST END, NOW!!!”
The only disaster is Trump, and the only hoax is his claims of fraud. This is the convicted felon who has still refused to concede his loss of the 2020 election.
Trump doesn’t have the power to eliminate mail-in voting, but he does have the power to distract voters from the Epstein files, his betrayal of Ukraine and his many other failures.
In New York, we believe in making voting as accessible as possible and that includes absentee ballots and early voting mail-in ballots. We will fight any effort by this would-be dictator to diminish anyone’s voting rights in New York.
