Electeds Want Water During April Holidays

Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz and Council Member Andrew Cohen call for suspension of DDC water main work during April holidays

Bronx, N.Y. – The ongoing DDC water main replacement project has caused its fair share of headaches in the community. The work to replace the ancient water mains beneath the streets has led to numerous water shut downs, planned and unplanned, affecting thousands Kingsbridge, Riverdale, and Van Cortlandt Village residents. Apart from the aggravation of going without water for days or weeks on end, the construction work necessary to complete the work has adversely affected traffic and parking in parts of Kingsbridge and Riverdale where parking was already scarce.

To alleviate this ongoing aggravation and to allow these Bronx residents time to enjoy the upcoming April holidays, Assemblyman Dinowitz and Council Member Cohen have requested that the DDC discontinue water shut offs and water main replacement work from Friday April 19th through Monday April 29th. This time marks the important holidays of Passover and Easter, where many invite family and friends to observe and celebrate with them. It’s much more difficult to do this without water, or street parking.

“My constituents have been bearing these aggravating water shutdowns and parking scarcity with grace and good will for almost a year now. We should give them the opportunity to cook and observe these important holidays in peace without worrying about whether or not they will have water to cook with while they’re doing so. We have asked DDC to work with the community and allow them a short reprieve,” said Assemblyman Dinowitz

“After putting up with almost a year of interrupted water service, our residents deserve to have peace of mind that there will be no water service interruptions during April’s holiday season. We have requested that DDC cease all water shut offs during this time period so our neighbors can have a break from this stressful situation and enjoy time with their families.” said Council Member Cohen.
