North Bronx Elected Officials Thank Community for Joining Virtual Town Hall

Over 200 attendees joined Congressman Eliot Engel, Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz, State Senator Jamaal Bailey, and Council Member Andrew Cohen at a virtual town hall held on Tuesday evening

Bronx, NY – Following a successful transition to the virtual world, more than 200 community residents joined local elected officials at Tuesday’s North Bronx Virtual Town Hall to discuss the local response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The audience submitted more than 150 questions regarding topics such as unemployment claims, stimulus checks, rent relief, USPS difficulties, voting in the June 23 primary, food availability, and health protocols such as COVID-19 testing. The four Bronx officials have issued a joint statement thanking community members for joining democracy in action:

Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz, Congressman Eliot Engel, Council Member Andrew Cohen, and State Senator Jamaal Bailey jointly said: “The most important element of our jobs is hearing from and responding to the people we are elected to represent in government. The COVID-19 pandemic is pushing our society to its limits, but the Bronx has dealt with adversity before and we will get through this together. It is our fundamental duty to ensure that all members of our community are able to access needed help from the government, and where problems are arising it is our duty to fight for solutions. This pandemic is the biggest challenge our society may have ever faced, and we are very grateful to have strong partnerships with each other which help us fight more effectively to meet this moment.”
