Angelino Calls For Stronger Victims’ Rights At Rally

Assemblyman Joseph Angelino (R,C,I-Norwich) joined crime victim advocates and other legislators to call upon the Legislature to improve the law to protect crime victims and communities. Among the actions they want to see are a further revision of the state’s bail reform laws and laws to address repeat offenders who are committing acts of violence.

“I will always stand with crime victims in their fight to be heard by the state. One of the ways we can support them is to revise the problems in the 2019 bail reforms and strengthen laws against repeat offenders,” said Angelino, who is a retired police chief. “The needs of crime victims have been overshadowed by the Majority’s many efforts to reward and celebrate criminals. Instead, we must listen to victims and respond to their needs.”

Some of the victims’ advocates walked from all parts of the state, including New York City, to the Capitol. Sammy Ravelo, a Navy veteran and retired NYPD Lieutenant, walked from the Bronx to Albany to raise awareness for the needs of crime victims during Crime Victims’ Rights Week.
