DeStefano: New Yorkers Deserve a Tax Code That Will Allow Them to Live Comfortably
April 15, also known as Tax Day, prompted government officials to gather in the state capital today to speak on New York’s tax policies. Assemblyman Robert Smullen (R,C-Mohawk Valley and the Adirondacks) held a Tax Day press conference that highlighted the significance of Tax Day in New York state and identified where New York ranks in comparison to other U.S. states. The main goal of today’s event was to promote collaboration between local and state lawmakers in an effort to relieve the tax burden on New Yorkers and businesses.
“Every year, me and my Assembly colleagues gather on Tax Day and recognize the burden that high taxes place on New Yorkers across the state. Unfortunately, the way our tax system is set up penalizes success and is completely unfair to the working class. New Yorkers deserve a tax code that promotes economic growth, and as someone who feels strongly on this issue, it is imperative to me to continue pushing for reforms that lower taxes for all.”
“High taxes continue to be a major concern for New Yorkers and are making it increasingly difficult for residents to live comfortably. Taxpayers have a right to know how their money is being spent and whether those funds are being used efficiently and effectively. We must prioritize transparency and accountability in our state’s financial management.”
