DeStefano Rallies for Expansion of Prevailing Wage

Yesterday, Assemblyman Joe DeStefano (R,C,I,Ref-Medford) joined labor union members at a rally in the New York State Capitol in support of expanding the prevailing wage to all projects that receive any public funding.

Prevailing wage is a set wage that generally parallels that of union workers. It is required on all fully-funded government construction jobs but not on any private projects. Possible bills brought to the State Legislature would expand the term “public works” to all projects paid for in whole or in part with public funds.

“The labor standards that come with public works projects ensure that our most qualified workers, with the most experience, are on the job resulting in safer work sites, fewer injuries and a decrease in costly delays,” said DeStefano. “I am proud to stand on behalf of all men and women in labor and give my support for the expansion of prevailing wage. I urge the governor to include this expansion in the final budget.”
