Today in the Corrections Committee, Assembly Majority voted to move forward Assembly Bill 8080. The bill would give inmates a 1,566% minimum wage increase and establish a cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) every five years. Assemblyman Joe DeStefano (R,C,I,Ref-Medford) strongly opposes the bill.Assembly Majority has continued with their pro-criminal theme, and this time its going to cost taxpayers $2.75 million, said DeStefano. While the middle class can hardly afford to pay their property taxes and their childrens college educations, Majority politicians aim to ensure convicted rapists, murderers and other violent offenders get a pay increase every five years. As we head into the last few weeks of session, its time we prioritize residents not convicts.
