DeStefano Fighting Against Bail Reform Laws

Assemblyman Joe DeStefano (R,C,I,Ref-Medford) is fighting back against the bail reform laws passed by the Majority by co-sponsoring legislation that would repeal these so-called reforms. During the 2019 Legislative Session, Majority politicians passed a bill that eliminates cash bail and pretrial detention for nearly all misdemeanors and non-violent felonies (A.2009-C). This new bail reform law will take effect in January 2020. DeStefano is a co-sponsor of new legislation that will repeal bail reform.

“I am proud to be working with my Minority colleagues to fight back against these so-called criminal justice reforms. It is outrageous that come January, criminals who torture animals, make a terroristic threat, commit manslaughter in the second degree—and more—will be released back into our community,” said DeStefano. “The legislation I am co-sponsoring is absolutely necessary to protect the safety of our children and neighbors. We cannot idly stand by and allow the Majority politicians to let criminals roam our streets.”
