DeStefano: In a Changing World, Progressive Majority Are Business as Usual
A Statement from Assemblyman Joe DeStefano (R,C,I, Ref-Medford)
As session resumed, the progressive, Majority-controlled Assembly showed us once again where their true priorities lie. Session this week was a disappointment. While it was well-intentioned, there was little action done to help our small businesses and struggling farmers. There was a real opportunity to help struggling New Yorkers, but progressive Majority politicians showed their true colors by being more interested in their own politics than helping our residents.
The Minority Conference introduced legislation that would limit the governors power and bring more authority back to the Legislature and local governments. During times of crisis, the people who know their regions needs are local authorities and they need to be given the discretion to do whats in the best interest of their residents. Unfortunately, this measure was shot down.
Instead of creating solutions to help our struggling small businesses or helping our children with summer programs, progressive Majority prioritized a bill that will compromise our elections. In a time where our world has changed because of the COVID-19 pandemic, progressive Majority showed us that theyre back to business as usual, fighting for a politically-drive agenda that does very little to help the majority of New Yorkers.
