Mikulin: Those Who Violate Orders of Protection Should Face Jail Time
May 22, 2025
Assemblyman John Mikulin’s (R,C-Bethpage) proposal to require mandatory jail time for violators of orders of protection has been blocked by the Assembly Majority. Assembly Bill A.1596 has been held in the Judiciary Committee and will not be moving forward at this time. Mikulin claims the decision to block this proposal and others like it will prevent justice from being served and holding violators accountable.
“Protection orders are designed to protect individuals from harm. If someone violates a protection order, there must be serious consequences to protect the victim(s) involved. It is truly unfortunate this proposal has been blocked. I sincerely hope the Assembly Majority rethinks this decision so we can keep New Yorkers safe.”
