State Majority Leaders Push for “Get Out of Jail Free Cards”

Assemblyman John Mikulin (R,C,Ref-Bethpage) is disappointed to hear state Majority leaders are now pushing for a bill (A.4319) which would allow for prisoners to be eligible for early parole at the age of 55 if they have served 15 consecutive years.

“Just because someone is over the age of 55 doesn’t mean they should be exempt from serving their time for a crime they committed,” said Mikulin. “We have laws and sentences in place for a reason, we need to stick to them. Recently we recognized National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, yet now we are going to let victims’ abusers free earlier than planned just because of their age? What does that tell victims? Prison supposed to be a punishment for breaking the law and committing a crime. No one should get a get out of jail free card for any reason.”
