Assemblyman John McGowan Sworn into Legislature

Today, Assemblyman John McGowan (R,C-Pearl River) was sworn in as a representative of the 97th Assembly District in Albany at the state Capitol by Hon. James E. Walsh. His district is comprised of parts of Rockland County including the towns of Rampo and Orangetown.

While in office, McGowan will prioritize public safety and will use his legal expertise to work alongside law enforcement to ensure they have the tools necessary to do their jobs. With thousands of New Yorkers leaving the state, he will focus on creating a more affordable place to live by cutting wasteful government spending and keeping the money in the pockets of hard working residents.

“I am very honored to represent the residents of the 97th Assembly District and want to congratulate my colleagues who were also sworn into the Legislature. I know I have big shoes to fill as Congressman Mike Lawler heads to Washington D.C. but fortunately we can work closely side by side this legislative session. We need people in office now more than ever that will fight for New York and I am grateful to receive this opportunity to help better the lives of the residents of this state,” said McGowan.

Prior to being elected, McGowan worked as an Assistant District Attorney in the Bronx County District Attorney’s Office to then Senior Assistant District Attorney in the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office. He was previously elected to the Rockland County Legislature and is currently a partner at Bleakley Platt & Schmidt LLP where his practice focuses on litigation, representing corporate and individual clients.

McGowan is looking forward to joining the most diverse Minority Assembly Conference in history which includes Assemblyman Lester Chang who is the first Asian-American Minority to be seated, representing parts of Brooklyn.
