Rather than focus on people who illegally acquire and use firearms to commit violent crimes with disregard for human life, this rushed action places further restrictions on New Yorkers who already demonstrate that they want to follow the law. By limiting the rights of legal gun owners, the state is ensuring that only criminals, who have already demonstrated no respect for law and order, have the right to threaten the lives of all citizens with impunity, and will disallow vulnerable individuals the ability to potentially protect themselves and others.
