Jensen: Expedite Relief for Unemployed New Yorkers
A statement from Assemblyman Josh Jensen (R,C,I-Greece)
April 15, 2021
“Over the past four weeks, my office has seen a drastic uptick in the number of residents reaching out about a lag in receiving unemployment benefits – and it’s only getting worse as residents attempt to re-certify their claims from March 2020.”
“As many residents have been unemployed since last year due to the fiscal impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the effect on our state’s economy, it’s critically important that the state Department of Labor (DOL) continues to provide relief to struggling families as they look for permanent employment. The DOL needs to expeditiously process all outstanding claims and use every resource it has to ensure that individuals with backlogged claims begin receiving payments immediately. The delays by DOL are actively harming families and putting their financial well-being at even greater risk.”
