Walsh Hosts Successful E-Waste Recycling Event, Fills Four Trucks with Devices
Assemblywoman Mary Beth Walsh (R,C-Ballston) partnered with Glenville business EWASTE+ for an electronic recycling event today at the East Glenville Volunteer Fire Department, the second of three drive-thru style spring-cleaning events being held for residents of the 112th Assembly District. The free event allowed residents to safely dispose of old and unneeded electronics. Last year, Walsh collected more than a tractor-trailer full of electronic devices, including televisions, computers, keyboards, radios and more. This year, the event filled four truckloads.
“It’s no surprise electronic waste is the fastest-growing waste stream in the world, driven by increased consumption of electronics and short device lifespans. But only about 15 to 20% of e-waste is recycled globally. It’s critical that we properly recycle our electronics to prevent toxic substances like lead and mercury from contaminating our soil and groundwater,” said Walsh.
“The continued success of this event each year shows just how committed our community is to responsible recycling. I’m grateful to our partners at EWASTE+, to the East Glenville Fire Department and to all the residents who showed up to do their part. If you weren’t able to make it this time, I hope to see you at next year’s event!”
The third and final spring-cleaning event will take place on Saturday, May 17, at Ballston Town Hall. Assemblywoman Walsh will be joined then by Stone Secure Shredding for a shredding event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
