“I am proud to have helped pass the Democracy Protection Act this afternoon in the Assembly (A.9930). This legislation will bring digital political advertising into the 21st century by ensuring that ads on Facebook, Twitter, and other online platforms comply with the same regulations as television and print media.
“This will bring transparency to the political process by informing voters of who is purchasing political ads. Furthermore, this legislation bans foreign nationals from purchasing digital political ads.
“By requiring ‘paid for by’ statements in online advertising, we are taking a great step forward in restoring confidence in our political process.”
