Today, Assemblymember Monica P. Wallace (D-Lancaster) announced that she has secured $20,000 in state funding to help the Lancaster Public Library, 5466 Broadway, maintain its aging, 46-year-old elevator by replacing the control panel. Patrons with limited mobility rely on the dated elevator equipment, installed during the library’s construction in 1975, to reach the main floor from the lower-grade parking lot off School Street.

“Our public libraries are valuable resources for recreation, education and connectivity, especially for our senior community. It’s vital that we ensure that our facilities are up-to-date and accessible to everyone,” said Assemblymember Wallace. “I’m glad that I was able to secure this funding for the Lancaster Public Library, and I will continue fighting for resources to maintain our infrastructure and improve accessibility in our community.”

 “This project is needed to ensure that our library remains accessible to individuals with limited mobility,” said Lancaster Public Library Director Kara Stock. “We thank Assemblymember Wallace for securing funding to replace the current control panel in the elevator, which has reached the end of its useful life.”

Assemblymember Wallace has prioritized securing resources for libraries and accessibility. She has secured $10,000 to create a children’s play area in the Lancaster Public Library, as well as funding to install the first accessible playground in the 143^rd Assembly District and to improve accessibility in the future Cheektowaga Boys & Girls Club.
