Assemblymember Kay honors our Active Troops and Their Families on Yellow Ribbon Day
Assemblymember Paula Elaine Kay (D-Rock Hill) sponsored a resolution to designate April 9, 2025, as Yellow Ribbon Day in New York State. The Assembly passed the resolution to honor the sacrifices of those serving in the military, bravely protecting our freedoms.
βIt is important to commemorate the dedication and scarifies of our military personnel and their family members,β said Kay. βI am honored to have sponsored this resolution along with my colleagues to give recognition and pay homage to those who have served, past and present.β
In 2006, championed by Halfmoon resident Carol Pingelski Hotaling, the New York State Legislature officially recognized April 9 as Yellow Ribbon Day. Annually passing the resolution helps ensure we never forget the courage of the men and women who served our country. The yellow ribbon symbol was first used in the U.S. for national unity and remembrance for the 52 Americans held hostage in Iran in 1979.[1],[2]
