Assembly Member Paula Elaine Kay Secures Public Safety Funds for Fallsburg and Middletown Police Departments

Rock Hill, NY – Assembly Member Paula Elaine Kay (D-Rock Hill) announced that $20,000 in federal Byrne Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) funding will be directed to two local police departments to support public safety initiatives.

The Town of Fallsburg Police Department and the City of Middletown Police Department will each receive $10,000 through the Edward Byrne Memorial JAG program. These federal funds, administered in New York State by the Division of Criminal Justice Services, are intended to enhance public safety and strengthen the criminal justice system at the local level.

"Keeping our communities safe is a top priority, and I’m proud to have secured these funds for our local police departments that are doing essential work on the ground," said Assembly Member Kay. "Whether it’s through prevention, enforcement, or community partnerships, these funds will support efforts that make a real difference in our communities."

Assembly Member Kay has worked closely with the City of Middletown Police Department throughout her time in office. Earlier this year, she helped improve the benefits structure in Orange County to protect experienced officers who want to continue to serve after becoming eligible for retirement. Her office remains in ongoing conversation with local law enforcement leaders, working together to identify needs and find solutions to the most pressing challenges facing Middletown residents.

“We are thankful to Assembly Member Kay for delivering resources that will enhance public safety in our city,” said Middletown Mayor Joseph M. DeStefano. “Partnerships like this one, between local and state government, help provide our police department with the tools it needs to keep Middletown safe and strong.”

“This funding directly supports our efforts to keep Middletown safe and strengthen our connection with the community,” said Middletown Chief of Police John Ewanciw. “Every bit helps, and we appreciate Assembly Member Kay’s continued support for our department's initiatives.”

The Byrne JAG program supports a wide range of activities including law enforcement programs, crime prevention, technology improvements, and victim services. Each police department will submit a proposal for how the funds will be used to advance public safety and community well-being.

“I would like to thank Assemblywoman Paula Kay for her unwavering support of our police department,” said Fallsburg Chief of Police Brendan Pavese. “She continues to be an asset to everyone in the community. The Byrne Grant is going to assist our police department with the purchase and installation of a pass through evidence locker.”

These investments reflect Assembly Member Kay’s commitment to smart, responsive public safety and her belief that real progress happens when state and local partners work hand in hand.
