“Gang violence has plagued our communities for far too long, forcing Suffolk County families to live in fear and parents to mourn lives stolen. I’ve once again fought for an Assembly budget proposal that includes funding to help rid our communities of violence and keep our young people on the right path.

“The Assembly budget proposal adds $10 million, for a total of $20 million, for youth gang prevention programs, including street outreach, crime analysis, research and violence reduction programs. The plan also includes $300,000 for the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program, which supports drug treatment, crime prevention and education, crime victim and witness initiatives, and mental health programs. Further, the proposal adds $200,000 for the Gun Violence Institute and $4.8 million for SNUG programs, which aim to reduce and prevent shootings through community engagement, conflict resolution and mentorship.

“As a former police detective, taking action against gangs has always been a top priority of mine. I’ve seen firsthand the toll they have taken on our neighborhoods, and I won’t rest until our families feel safe.”
