Smullen: Law And Order Must Resume

Assemblyman Robert Smullen (R,C,I,SAM-Meco) joined Assembly and Senate Minority Conferences today to call for an end to bail reform and the various offshoots that relax criminal justice laws and allow lawbreakers to harm their neighbors and communities. Smullen knows New Yorkers are just as fed up as he is.

“The truth is this: law and order must resume, and we start that by repealing bail reform,” Smullen said. “However well-intended the initiative was, we see now that the result is disastrous, with even our own Department of Criminal Justice Services reporting an increase in armed violence deaths at 60.1% over the last five years. Bail reform has only exacerbated the problem, and it needs to go.”
