Smullen: Proportional Representation in the Judiciary is Essential Statewide

A Statement from Assemblyman Robert Smullen (R,C-Mohawk Valley and the Adirondacks) in response to proposal A.10540/S.9839, which would increase the number of judges in certain courts throughout the state, being delivered to Gov. Hochul’s office for signing.

“I am proud to see this proposal, which would create proportionate representation in the judiciary statewide, move forward. The passage of this bill, which I voted in favor of, will support the rural equity initiative my fellow Assembly Minority Conference colleagues and I have been fighting for. For rural and urban communities to be represented fairly, a consistent number of judges presiding over family and civil courts statewide is essential.”

“This is a good bill, and when signed, it will help families by ensuring their cases are heard in a timely manner.”
