Statement from Assemblyman Robert Smullen on U.S. Strikes Against Iran’s Nuclear Program
GLOVERSVILLE, New York — As a retired Marine Corps colonel who served three combat tours in Afghanistan and spent a career safeguarding our national security, I support the decisive action taken by the U.S. against Iran’s nuclear weapons infrastructure.
America must never allow the Iranian regime—the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism —to obtain a nuclear weapon. I’ve seen firsthand what happens when rogue regimes are left unchecked, and I know what it means to lead in complex, high-stakes environments. These strikes are a necessary measure to protect not just our homeland, but our allies and partners across the globe.
This was not a decision made lightly, and it should not be viewed through a partisan lens. It was a clear message: The U.S. will not tolerate nuclear threats from hostile regimes. Peace through strength isn’t just a slogan—it’s a strategy built on deterrence and the credible will to act.
I will always stand with our servicemembers, our intelligence community and our commander-in-chief when they take action to defend the American people. Now is the time for unity and resolve.
