Bendett: A Reduction in Foundation Aid Would Spell Disaster for Upstate Schools and Beyond

A Statement from Assemblyman Scott Bendett (R,C-Sand Lake) in response to Assembly Minority Conference’s Foundation Aid Press Conference in Albany on Jan. 22, 2024.

“It’s truly unfortunate and concerning that Gov. Kathy Hochul has proposed to alter or even revoke the ‘hold harmless’ provision from Foundation Aid, which will reduce the state’s financial commitment to many schools. Taking away this provision would force school districts upstate and beyond to weather unanticipated Foundation Aid cuts and require them to make budget adjustments that could lead to property tax increases, larger class sizes and fewer teachers and services for our kids. This is a grave reality students, teachers and parents could face in the near future—I will be sure to keep everyone updated in the weeks ahead as my fellow assemblymembers and I voice our opposition to this neglectful proposal.”
