In the past week, NYU Langone has chosen to grovel to Donald Trump by spinelessly and unnecessarily submitting to two executive orders that are at odds with the very Hippocratic Oath they have pledged to uphold. With these actions, NYU Langone has taken an aggressively conservative interpretation of the orders that is not aligned with the position of any other medical provider or the community they are meant to serve. I vigorously condemn NYU Langone for actions they have taken and statements they have released since Trump's inauguration. I demand NYU Langone immediately reverse these actions and statements to ensure that my constituents and all New Yorkers receive the medical care that they deserve, and that NYU Langone is not a participant in the fascist action of mass deportations. 

Most recently, NYU Langone issued a statement warning staff to not protect patients or prevent enforcement officers during ICE raids in response to the Trump administration, giving free reign to immigration enforcement in previously protected sensitive locations. This statement conflicts with the memo released by the Greater New York Hospital Association, which continues to be committed to patient privacy in every circumstance. Mass deportations have never and will never do what they claim to do. They only cause pain, distrust in government, and the destruction of families and communities, especially when they target vulnerable people simply seeking care for their medical needs.
