Assemblyman Colton Welcomes Steady Stream of Constituents to District and Pop-Up Offices
Well-known for its careful attention to constituent issues, the office of Assemblyman William Colton (D—Gravesend, Bensonhurst, Bath Beach and Dyker Heights) welcomes hundreds of local residents each month who come in with a wide range of concerns.
The office, at 155 Kings Highway, sees approximately 400 constituents each month, according to records, on issues ranging from dealing with government services such as SNAP and Section 8, to landlord-tenant disputes, to immigration, to a host of quality-of-life complaints that include dirty streets, potholes and broken street lights. In addition, the pop-up office that is open on Friday afternoons at Il Centro, 8711 18th Avenue, sees about 20 to 25 constituents per month.
“My office staff fields a wide range of questions and concerns, and does it with compassion, care and determination,” said Assemblyman Colton. “Constituents that walk through our doors can rest assured that we will do our very best to resolve their issues, cutting through the bureaucratic red tape that can ensnare residents.
“We also try to offer additional benefits to those who live in the area,” the assemblyman continued. “We have been engaged in a book drive since September, distributing the many books we receive for free to local youngsters on a regular basis, at the office and at local schools. And, through the Bensonhurst Food Giveaway that we are spearheading, we also have been working to distribute needed food at no charge to area residents, many of whom have been struggling because of rising prices and, just last month, delays in receiving SNAP benefits.”
Besides English, staff members speak Chinese, Russian, Spanish, Urdu and Bengali, in order to accommodate as many area residents as possible.
Assemblyman Colton’s office can be reached by phone at 718-236-1598. It’s open Monday through Wednesday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursday from noon to 8 p.m.; and Friday, from 10 a.m. to noon.
