Assemblyman Colton, Councilmember Zhuang to Highlight Local Women and their Contributions

Neighborhood women will be in the spotlight during March, Women’s History Month, thanks to an annual celebration highlighting their achievements that will be hosted by Assemblyman William Colton (D—Gravesend, Bensonhurst, Bath Beach and Dyker Heights) and City Councilmember Susan Zhuang (D-Bensonhurst, Bath Beach, Gravesend, Dyker Heights, Boro Park and Sunset Park).

To that end, the two legislators are currently planning this year’s Women of Distinction event which honors women in the community who have dedicated themselves to making a difference, whether in business, education, humanitarian work, military service, community/civic affairs, health care, government or volunteerism.

For this reason, Assemblyman Colton and Councilmember Zhuang are asking local leaders, residents and businesspeople to nominate women who they believe deserve the recognition. As always, the women who receive the award will represent the diversity of the area, and represent a wide range of achievements.

“We have amongst us so many women who have selflessly devoted themselves to the betterment of the community, often without asking for recognition for their actions,” said Assemblyman Colton. “I feel incredibly privileged to get to honor these community powerhouses for what they do, day in and day out, not only for their neighbors, family and friends, but for people they have never met. Our neighborhood is a better place because of them, and I am grateful for their contributions.”

To nominate a woman for this year’s honors, email coltonw@nyassembly.gov or call 718-236-1598. All nominations should be submitted by March 16. The celebration will be Sunday, March 22, from 1 to 4 p.m., at FIAO’s Il Centro, 8711 18th Avenue, Brooklyn NY 11214.
