Another Successful Cleanup in the Books, Says Assemblyman Colton

Assemblyman William Colton (D—Gravesend, Bensonhurst, Bath Beach and Dyker Heights) and City Councilmember Susan Zhuang (D— Bensonhurst, Bath Beach, Gravesend, Dyker Heights, Boro Park and Sunset Park) held a community cleanup in partnership with the Chinese American Social Services Center (CASS) on Saturday, August 17, with participants meeting at Seth Low Park and fanning out from there.

The volunteers, which included a contingent of students from Brooklyn Tech High School, concentrated on the stretch of Kings Highway between West Fourth and West 12th streets (in response to a request received on Facebook) as well as Avenue O between West Fourth and West 12th streets. Auxiliary officers from the 62nd Precinct were also on hand to help supervise the effort.

“Every time we do a cleanup, I am impressed by the dedication and community spirit of the volunteers,” said Assemblyman Colton. “These cleanups are so important in so many ways. Not only do they result in more attractive streets and a better quality of life for those living and working in the area, but they teach an important lesson about cooperation and collaboration being at the heart of community, bringing people together in pursuit of a common goal. I am certain that the young people who willingly give their time to improve the neighborhood will carry this important lesson with them into the future.”

Assemblyman Colton has led community cleanups focusing on the area’s bustling business areas for over a decade, aided by Councilmember Zhuang, his then-chief-of-staff. The next cleanup is scheduled to take place on Saturday, September 14.
