Assemblyman Colton’s Statement on Water Main Break at Cropsey Avenue and Bay 37th Street

Assemblyman William Colton (D—Gravesend, Bensonhurst, Bath Beach and Dyker Heights) was at the site of the water main break, and spoke with workers there who told him that the water would be on by 3 p.m. However, they also told him that repairs would be ongoing till Friday. In the meantime, DEP installed two portable faucet setups on the sidewalk so residents would have access to water.

“It’s good that the city responded quickly to this emergency situation,” said Assemblyman Colton. “However, that being said, the infrastructure in the area is a century old, and is likely increasingly fragile. It seems to me that the city needs to do an evaluation of the state of the water mains, and replace those that could potentially cause problems such as this one.”
