Assemblyman Colton, Councilmember Zhuang to Hold 9/11 Memorial
Local residents are invited to join Assemblyman William Colton (D—Gravesend, Bensonhurst, Bath Beach and Dyker Heights) and City Councilmember Susan Zhuang (D— Bensonhurst, Bath Beach, Gravesend, Dyker Heights, Boro Park and Sunset Park) at a memorial service for the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks at Seth Low Park on Wednesday, September 11 at 11 a.m.
“It’s hard to believe, but the horrific attack on the World Trade Center, in which so many innocent lives were senselessly cut short, was 23 years ago,” said Assemblyman Colton. “Despite the time that has passed, the pain of that day is still with us, and we believe it is important to remember the victims, those people who went to work that day and never came home, the heroes who perished rushing in to try to save as many people as possible, and those who have died in the ensuing years because of exposure to toxic dust. They are always in our thoughts, and, especially on the anniversary of the attack, it’s important that we take time out of our day to mourn and reflect.”
"We come together to honor the memory of those we lost and to reaffirm our commitment to unity and resilience. This memorial service will show how strong our community is and how those who faced great loss did so with incredible bravery. Let us always remember and never forget," said Councilmember Zhuang.
Approximately 2,600 perished at the Twin Towers, including 343 New York City firefighters and 71 members of law enforcement, as a result of the 9/11/2001 terrorist attacks. In addition, over 4,300 survivors and first responders have succumbed in the years following the attacks to ailments caused by exposure to toxins released into the air, according to the World Trade Center Health Program.
