Assembly Minority Leader Brian M. Kolb (R,C,I-Canandaigua) today encouraged local families to participate in the holiday season by donating food and volunteering their time to help the less fortunate in our community.

"For many of us, November 28, Thanksgiving Day will be a fun-filled day enjoying delicious food, holiday traditions and quality time with loved ones," Kolb said. "But as we celebrate, we should also remember to reflect and give thanks for all the blessings we enjoy year round, whether it is the ability to put food on the table or simply the chance to spend time with our family and friends."

Local organizations that are in need of volunteers include:

• Foodlink and the Food Bank of Central New York host food drives and raise donations from individuals and businesses to help provide food to shelters and other hunger-relief agencies in the area. Visit their Web sites for more information.
• The Victor Farmington Food Cupboard is run by 100-percent volunteer effort and is always looking for volunteers. Find out more information at their Web site.
• Gleaners Community Kitchen in Canandaigua has been helping neighbors for more than 25 years through the generous donations of time, food or money. Information about opportunities to assist is available at their Web site.
