Assembly Minority Leader Brian Kolb Statement In Recognition Of Veterans Day

"As the father, son, brother and uncle of U.S. veterans, I will always carry a profound appreciation for their sacrifice and service to our nation. The men and women of our armed forces put their lives in jeopardy to provide a blanket of protection under which Americans rest. Their tireless efforts and selfless bravery should be recognized daily - especially on this national holiday.

Governor Cuomo's recent veto of a veterans' assistance bill is a disservice to those who have committed themselves to preserving our freedom. The Legislature gave overwhelming support to provide all veterans the ability to buy back credits toward their retirement upon their return from duty. The Governor vetoed this near-unanimous measure only after his re-election was secure. His action insults the patriots who have put America's interests ahead of their own. They deserve better.

I will continue to work hard on behalf of our military veterans and advance legislation that honors their service. As America celebrates Veterans Day, I hope all New Yorkers will take time to thank a veteran for their courage, sacrifice and for the freedom that defines our nation."
