Tax Freedom Day: New York Ranks Among Nation's Worst for Amount of Taxes Residents Pay Each Year

Assembly Minority Leader Brian Kolb (R,C-Canandaigua) issued the following statement on "Tax Freedom Day" in New York State. Each year, the Tax Foundation publishes a state-by-state analysis that indicates when individuals have earned enough money to pay off their total tax bill. With a tax freedom day of May 8, New York ranks as the third-worst state, behind only New Jersey and Connecticut (May 13).

"Tax Freedom Day is another painful reminder of the oppressive financial burdens New York State places on its residents," Leader Kolb said. "For too long, Albany's focus has been on economic gimmicks that generate headlines, but little else. We recently completed a state budget cycle that ignored meaningful tax relief - as if the situation is going to fix itself. New York State's tax crisis goes unaddressed year after year. As a result, hardworking New Yorkers are forced to pay a steeper price."

Information on Tax Freedom Day can be found at the Tax Foundation Web site.
