Investing Time In The Finger Lakes Area Is A Win-Win
Legislative Column from Assembly Minority Leader Brian M. Kolb (R,C,I,Ref-Canandaigua)

The Finger Lakes Region is home to world-class vineyards, incredible tourist attractions and offers some of the best home-grown products in the country. The region's small business owners and farmers are among the hardest working people in New York and its wine, beer, cider, cheeses and countless other products have truly set it apart. Their dedication to their crafts has helped transform the area into a first-rate destination. I am proud to call it home.

Soon, many will gather for the yearly celebration of the Finger Lake's delicious wines. The Finger Lakes Wine Festival will showcase more than 80 wineries, along with regional artisans, culinary classes, live music, and cooking demonstrations. Tourists and locals alike will be treated to nationally and internationally recognized products from July 14-16 at the Watkins Glen International race track.

Voted America's "Best Wine Festival" last year by USA Today readers, it is a great opportunity to experience a variety of state-produced and Finger Lakes products all at once.

FINGER LAKES WINE FESTIVAL IS A REGIONAL BOOST

Supporting the Finger Lakes Wine Festival is a tremendous way to support our local economy. Spending money on area businesses creates jobs and strengthens our community. Celebrating its 21st year, the festival is a huge regional boost during the summer and I am hopeful it continues to thrive each season.

The festival also offers a number of exciting performances and events. On Saturday, July 15, the Taster's Banquet at the Glen Club will feature wine and dinner, along with regional wine experts on hand to discuss the local products.

For more information on the festival visit its website.

CELEBRATE RECREATION MONTH IN THE FINGER LAKES

If you're more inclined to be out and about, July is Parks and Recreation Month, and the Finger Lakes Region is home to many beautiful locales and vistas. The Finger Lakes National Forest has some great hiking trails to photograph and explore. Bring the kids and enjoy a day of exercise and fresh air. More information about the unique events, attractions and recreational opportunities in the Finger Lakes can be found on the I Love NY website.

The summertime is perfect for family bonding, new experiences and creating memories. For residents and newcomers, I hope you enjoy all the excitement our home has to offer.
