A04195 Memo:

NEW YORK STATE ASSEMBLY
MEMORANDUM IN SUPPORT OF LEGISLATION
submitted in accordance with Assembly Rule III, Sec 1(f)

BILL NUMBER: A4195A

SPONSOR: Hyndman
TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the elder law, in relation to the dissemination of information pertaining to Alzheimer's disease and other forms of demen- tia through the NY Connects: Choices for Long Term Care program   PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: The purpose of this bill is to encourage the sharing of information about programs and services that treat and support individuals with Alzheimer's disease or other forms of dementia.   SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section one of the bill would require NY Connects: Choices for Long Term Care program to include programs and services for individuals suffering from Alzheimer's disease or other forms of dementia. Section two would establish the effective date.   DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ORIGINAL AND AMENDED VERSION (IF APPLICABLE): The A-print amendments would remove the provision for the State Office for the Aging, in conjunction with the Department of Health, to estab- lish a Dementia and Alzheimer's disease program database. The A-print amendments would add a requirement for the Office to include programs and services for individuals suffering from Alzheimer's disease or other forms of dementia in their NY Connects: Choices for Long Term Care program.   JUSTIFICATION: There are many programs across the state that are designed to assist and support individuals with Alzheimer's disease and dementia. Innovative ideas are implemented at the local level, but it is difficult for groups in other areas of the state to find out about them. Information about these innovative and successful programs should be available through the NY Connects program so that their success can be replicated in other areas.   LEGISLATIVE HISTORY: 2025-26: A4195 - Referred to Aging; S118 - Passed Senate 2023-24: A5306-A - Reported to Ways and Means; S887 - Passed Senate 2021-22: A3579 - Referred to Aging; No Same As 2019-20: A5330 - Referred to Aging; No Same As 2017-18: A6342 - Ordered to Third Reading; S6080 - Referred to Aging 2015-16: A5318 - Vetoed; S3968 - Vetoed 2013-14: A9495 - Passed Assembly; No Same As   FISCAL IMPLICATIONS: To be determined.   EFFECTIVE DATE: This act would take effect one year after it would have become a law.
