An act to amend the highway law, in relation to dedicating a portion of
the state highway system to Jake Arcara.
PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL:
Designates a portion of the state highway system to Jake Arcara
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section 1- dedicates part of route 118 in Yorktown to Jake Arcara
Section 2- The commissioner of transportation shall provide for
all.signage
Section 3- Effective Date
JUSTIFICATION:
Jake Arcara was a highway maintenance worker who was tragically killed
on the job by a motorist who sped through the construction zone. This
bill would rename part of route 118 in Jake's honor and for all workers
who are killed while maintaining our roadways.

AN ACT to amend the highway law, in relation to dedicating a portion of
the state highway system to Jake Arcara.
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-bly, do enact as follows:
1 Section 1. The highway law is amended by adding a new section 344-r to
2 read as follows:
3 § 344-r. Portion of the state highway system to be dedicated to Jake
4 Arcara. All that portion of the state highway system constituting state
5 route one hundred eighteen from its intersection with Underhill Avenue
6 to its intersection with Old Country Way in the town of Yorktown, county
7 of Westchester, shall be dedicated to Jake Arcara.
8 § 2. The commissioner of transportation shall provide for the instal-
9 lation and maintenance of adequate signing of the state highway system
10 as dedicated pursuant to section one of this act, provided that such
11 signing shall state "Highway Dedicated to Jake Arcara". However, to
12 avoid confusion and to limit any possible disruption of commerce, the
13 dedication called for pursuant to section one of this act shall be one
14 of ceremonial nature and the official name of such highway shall not be
15 changed as a result of this act.
16 § 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
