TITLE OF BILL:
 
An act to repeal paragraph (e) of subdivision 3 of section 2853 of the
education law, relating to charter school funding in cities with a popu-
lation of one million or more inhabitants
 
 
PURPOSE::
 
This legislation removes the requirement of public schools to cover the
rent of charter schools in cities with a population of one million or
more inhabitants.
 
 
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS::
 
Section 1: Repeal paragraph e of subdivision 3 of section 2853 of the
education law.
 
Section 2: Sets forth the effective date.

 
EXISTING LAW::
 
Charter schools that are new, or adding grade levels, can go through a
legally defined process (referred to as "Facilities Access Process")
that results in a charter school either receiving co-located space in a
school district building; private building space provide at no cost; or
funding to cover rental expenses
 
 
FISCAL IMPLICATION::
 
None
 
 
EFFECTIVE DATE::
 
This bill shall take effect immediately.

        AN ACT to repeal paragraph (e) of subdivision 3 of section 2853  of  the
          education  law,  relating  to  charter school funding in cities with a
          population of one million or more inhabitants

          The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and  Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section  1.  Paragraph  (e)  of  subdivision  3 of section 2853 of the
     2  education law is REPEALED.
     3    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
