  TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the civil service law, in relation to employment of retired members of the division of state police as part-time police officers in certain villages in the county of Franklin   PURPOSE: This bill would allow the employment of retired state police officers as part-time municipal police officers in the county of Franklin.   SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1 - Section one amends section 58 of the civil service law by adding a new subdivision I-a to authorize the board of trustees of any village in Franklin County to employ, without examination as a part-time police officer, any retired member of the state police. Section 2 -Provides effective date and date of repeal   JUSTIFICATION: Law enforcement agencies across the state are struggling to find employ- ees during the current worker shortage. This bill has been requested by the county of Franklin, and the villages of Saranac Lake, Malone, and Tupper Lake so that they can have the flexibility to hire part-time police officers to meet the safety and fiscal needs of the community.
