MEMORANDUM IN SUPPORT OF LEGISLATION

TITLE OF BILL:
 
An act to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to operation of
an authorized emergency vehicle
 
 
PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL:
 
To narrow the protection against liability for the Operators of emergen-
cy vehicles, such as police cars, fire trucks, and ambulances, who are
involved in injury causing accidents while responding to emergencies.
 
 
JUSTIFICATION:
 
This bill will allow emergency vehicles to respond, to emergency calls
that need their immediate attention without using "reckless disregard
"standard of care". It's in the best interest of everyone that we stand
behind those who risk their lives trying to save the lives of others.
