AN ACT to amend the arts and cultural affairs law, in relation to
empowering the council on the arts to designate the Harlem Renaissance
Cultural District
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-bly, do enact as follows:
1 Section 1. Section 3.05 of the arts and cultural affairs law is
2 amended by adding a new subdivision 12 to read as follows:
3 12. To promote regions of cultural significance by providing cultural
4 institutions within such regions grants, technical assistance, or other
5 assistance authorized by this section as the council deems appropriate,
6 including, but not limited to, the Harlem Renaissance Cultural District.
7 This region shall be bounded by 110th Street on the South, The Hudson
8 River on the West, 155th Street on the North and the 5th Avenue on the
9 East. The council may designate additional regions of cultural signif-
10 icance at its discretion but such regions shall be compact, contiguous,
11 and have an identifiable cultural heritage which unites the region.
12 § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
